Cell Block Theatre, Darlinghurst Wedding

ANNA & BRENDAN

Surrounded by beautiful sandstone buildings, works of art and intriguing history, Anna & Brendan’s wedding was elegant in every detail. Their wedding ceremony was held at the courtyard of The National Art School at Darlinghurst (NAS), Sydney. Considered as one of Sydney’s best kept secrets, NAS takes you to an era that extends back to almost 175 years.

Anna and Brendan did a ‘FIRST LOOK’ where the bride sneaks up behind the groom. Brendan’s face was pure of anticipation and excitement, and when he finally had a first look at his lovely bride – Brendan’s reaction was simply priceless!

I first met Anna as a bridesmaid for her sister’s wedding. A couple of years later, Anna called me to capture her wedding day! It’s always a great honour to be invited into a family’s celebration such as a wedding and to capture the story of their day. It’s even more so when you’re remembered years later and be invited again!

A couple of weeks prior to Anna and Brendan’s wedding I did a location spotting at The National Art School. I was so excited as it was a perfect location for couples’ portraits. There are so many beautiful historic buildings and Cell Block Theatre’s circular structure reminded me of Bologna, Italy’s architecture.

NAS provided an excellent backdrop for Anna and Brendan’s couple and bridal entourage portraits creating photographs that are both graphic and romantic. Anna and Brendan’s reception was also held within NAS at the historic, Cell Block Theatre. It was once the women’s wing of Old Darlinghurst Gaol and held notorious women criminals!

Anna and Brendan’s beautiful and touching wedding ceremony was held at the  garden courtyard of The National Art School. The garden was like an oasis in the middle of Sydney’s busy inner-city suburb.

Anna and Brendan’s Wedding was featured on Polka Dot Bride.
