Saltwater is one of our favourite venues in Port Stephens, and since we are local wedding Port Stephens photographers, we would love to share with you some of our knowledge from having photographed many weddings in Saltwater.

Where is Saltwater Restaurant?

Saltwater Restaurant is located at Port Stephens in the beautiful and idyllic Australian coastal town of  Fingal Bay. More specifically, Saltwater is a stone’s throw away from Fingal Beach. Perched above the Surf Life Savings Club, it boasts breathtaking ocean views of Fingal Beach and beyond.

Saltwater Weddings Ceremony

There are plenty of options to choose from for your wedding ceremony when choosing Saltwater. Port Stephens is easy to get around, and boasts an arrays of beautiful locations. You can pretty much have your dream wedding ceremony anywhere: right on the beach or at a nature park. Of course, Saltwater Restaurant offers an onsite wedding ceremony option both indoors and outdoors.

For an outdoor ceremony, one of the most popular locations for couples who’ve had Saltwater weddings is Barry Park, Fingal Bay. This is very close to Saltwater Restaurant and has a grassy area, which is quite private and you can set chairs for your guests for a more comfortable wedding ceremony.

The couples and their guests enjoy an expansive view of Fingal Beach as a backdrop to the wedding. From there, we can continue on to do amazing wedding photographs at Barry Park boardwalk, around the bushes and down at the rocks that is especially enthralling at sunset!

If you prefer to have your wedding ceremony and reception all in one place then Saltwater has a private balcony that is perfect for you! If you choose to have your ceremony at Saltwater, you will see that Saltwater’s balcony has plenty of space to accommodate a number of guests and not to mention, you and your wedding guests can also enjoy panoramic ocean views.

Sometimes rain happens on a wedding day, as with one of our couples who happened to get married on the wettest day of the year! They didn’t let the rain dampen their wedding day and they had a beautiful indoor wedding ceremony at Saltwater.

Photo locations for Saltwater Weddings

Port Stephens is such an amazing location and as a local Nelson Bay wedding photographers, we always try to illustrate its natural beauty when doing couple portraits. Our background as a landscape photographer gives us the eye how to incorporate nature’s aesthetics as a backdrop to your love story.

Barry Park One of our favourite places we love to bring our couples for their wedding photographs that is very close to Saltwater is Barry Park. It is an amazing location that has the best of everything that Port Stephens has to offer: bush outlook, water views, and rocky headlands. First, we start off by taking some wedding portraits around the boardwalk of Barry Park, Fingal Bay. This is an excellent starting point as it also gives you an opportunity to have some ‘alone time’ after you just got married. We’re always aware that this is a precious moment that can never be repeated, and we would like you to savour this time. From there we head down along a rocky area which is always perfect at sunset time! Saltwater Weddings for our couples is not complete without this iconic photograph! You will be treated to some excitement, hopping along the rocks (promise it’s not as hard as it sounds) and the finale is the romantic sun setting perfectly on your wedding day. It gives you a different perspective of Fingal Beach, Saltwater and when it’s low tide, you can even see the Fingal Spit.

Fingal Beach Located right in front of Saltwater this is a perfect spot to do bridal entourage photos. Why don’t you take your shoes off and enjoy the sand between your toes before heading back to your Saltwater wedding reception?

Box Beach A short drive to Saltwater restaurant is considered a local’s secret spot. It is my choice for a couple’s portrait location if your wedding falls in peak season because there are fewer tourists around. With its interestingly jagged face, the rocks are a great backdrop to your wedding portraits.

Little Beach This is always a fun spot for wedding portraits with the resident pelicans! It’s also perfect as a wet weather plan option. If you can’t walk along the sand and rocks when it’s too wet, you can still have nice wedding photos along the jetty.

Nelson Bay Lighthouse Another good wet weather option is the famous Inner Tea Lighthouse. It also has amazing views of the bay and plenty of covers in case of rain.

As part of our service, we always have a wedding preparation meeting with you where we will go through your wedding timeline and we will suggest the best photography locations for your Saltwater wedding to make the most of your wedding coverage. We will then visit each location to check out the timing and the light to ensure you’ll have the most amazing wedding photographs.

Why do couples choose to have Saltwater Weddings?

We’re always interested in our couples’ stories and what draws them to a wedding venue. Most of our couples choose to have weddings at Saltwater because they have grown up holidaying in Port Stephens and wanted to recreate those positive feelings that they had as children. They are immediately drawn to the intimate yet open space that Saltwater offers. It has an understated elegance that you can enjoy as is or add your personal touch.

As for the service, we can personally vouch that wedding guests are well taken care of and the staff is always attentive and professional.

If you love what you see and you’re having a Saltwater Wedding, please get in touch and it will be our pleasure to be a part of and capture your special day.
