Angelia & Brendan’s Lauriston House Function Centre wedding features multiple ceremonies paying homage to their Indonesian and Malaysian backgrounds. Angelia wore a red, lace dress, which is a symbol of luck and fortune for their Tea Ceremony. The Tea Ceremony is considered to be a very important ritual, as it introduces the bride to the groom’s family.

But before Angelia could join him, Brendan had to overcome humorous obstacles set up by the bridal entourage to get to his bride, which is a Malaysian tradition that adds fun and joy to the day.

I love living in Australia for its richness in cultures and traditions. And of course, these traditions come very much alive when there are weddings! Families are very proud of their roots and are very open to sharing with their guests their customs.

Angelia and Brendan’s ceremony was very joyful with lots of laughs and a few tears. The couple opted to write their own wedding vows to make it more personal.

The world’s largest and most populous continent provides us with culturally diverse wedding traditions and rituals. There is something exotic when we think of the Far East, and this feeling is also evident in Asia’s different wedding customs.

Chinese brides wear a red gown and is usually embroidered in gold – they believe that these are the colours of luck and fortune. If you have been invited to a wedding with a Tea ceremony, you would have appreciated this wonderful ritual practised in many Asian cultures and is believed to promote harmony, discipline the mind and quieten the heart.

At weddings, this is the most sacred ritual, as it serves as the bride’s symbolic introduction to the groom’s family.
