A woman looks her most beautiful on her wedding day. But as every woman knows, looking your best doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process of taking care of yourself, eating healthily, exercising and of course, a beauty routine that will ensure you’re looking radiant on one of the most special days of your life.

We consulted with the experts to give you the most common asked for bridal hair and make up tips to help you look the better version of yourself on your wedding day!

When should I do a wedding make-up trial?

Amanda Frost of Bellus Hair and Make up answered this common question for us.

Have a trial about four weeks before your wedding as having it too early, can be difficult to re create the same look on the day as makeup artists change products and techniques often. We also do many brides so it can be hard to remember (even with notes and pictures) the exact same way they did your makeup.

If you are having a tan done for your wedding then have one done before your trial. Often after a tan, brides don’t realize that their foundation base has to match up with the rest of their skin and can feel too orange in the face.

In the trial session I also like to talk about the timing on the wedding day to make sure we allocate enough time.

Its also a great time to discuss how to prep your skin for the big day, also do’s and dont’s when it comes to facial waxing, tinting, threading, teeth whitening etc.

Trials are the perfect way to

  1. Make a connection with your makeup artist

  2. Know exactly how you are going to look on your wedding day

  3. Test out if you like the look of lash extensions

  4. Experience the durability of the makeup

  5. Decide on the perfect shade of lipstick or gloss you like for touchups on the wedding day

  6. Test you don’t have any reactions or allergies to any of the products used

  7. See how the makeup looks in pictures

How can I be sure that I like my look on the big day?

If you have any events over the course of your year leading up to your wedding, consider getting your artist or artists in for those events to try different looks on you. This will help you gain even more confidence with your artist and get to try a few different looks to help you decide on what you think will look best on you for your big day.

The ultimate goal is to ensure that you feel comfortable and confident with your artist or artists.

Hair colour changes before the big day?

If you are thinking about a colour change, the earlier the better, think a year to nine months beforehand, then plan your dates working back from your wedding dates, pre-booking all your up and coming appointments to ensure that you are getting your hair done the week before the wedding. We often choose to do a full heads of foils for a gradual more even natural lift, as we do not want to do anything to comprise the condition of your hair, we like to add our Structure repair treatment into your colour and use our structure repair treatments weekly after colour to keep the hair looking healthy and feeling strong.

Bridal Hair and Makeup Tips to remember

  1. Get all facials from six months before the wedding to get your skin prepared and looking its best for your big day, and to give time for any break outs to ease.

  2. Get hair coloured and treated a week before, in case there happens to be any over toning or slight error to be reversed.

  3. A week before your wedding get all your waxing done to give time for any break outs to heal.

  4. The night before the wedding, wash hair and blow dry straight if needed. Avoid using any hot irons on your hair.

  5. The morning of the wedding cleanse and moisturise your face, try to avoid an SPF as some can make the light reflect off your face in pictures.

  6. Brush your teeth before your makeup application as it can leave marks around your mouth, and ruin your foundation.

  7. Most important of all is to enjoy and have fun! Your natural beauty is sure to come out on your big day!
