WHY AUTUMN & WINTER MAY JUST BE THE PERFECT SEASONS TO GET MARRIED?
Winter Wedding Sydney |
Yes, we love our Summer. Each year we mourn the end of our long sunny days and most of us, including me, prolong the wearing of our Havaianas much longer than we should. But do not dismiss Autumn or Winter months when planning your wedding. Yes, it may be a bit cold but there are plenty of good reasons to get married in these seasons especially in Sydney’s beautiful climate ..
1 ~ The Soft Winter Light
If you have been reading some of the articles before, you’d know by now how obsessed I am with light! Light is the most important tool that a photographer can master. Winter is full of contradictions. Yes, you feel colder but visually everything is warmer. In winter, light is softer and the result is beautiful portraits. Another plus for this time of the year is that you don’t really need to worry what time of the day you’d have your outdoor wedding location shoot.
In summer time, we definitely try to avoid the high noon, as you would be getting the dreaded shadows under your eyes and we’d have to find shaded areas to counteract these limitations. Whereas in winter, you can pretty much be in plein air all day long and still look and feel fresh! The only one thing that you need to be mindful about is that days are shorter, so timing of your ceremony and couple shoots will need to be carefully planned.
2 ~ Shadows
I love playing with shadows. This time of the year they are also much more prominent, and this gives us plenty of opportunities to play with light and produce creative portraits. You will also notice that shadows are longer and much more theatrical.
3 ~ Winter Romance
There is something about autumn and winter that signal romance. Candlelights, the falling of the leaves, and intimate indoor spaces like wineries, art galleries, old Victorian buildings and country houses provide the perfect wedding venues for your wedding this time of the year. What more? Venues and most suppliers offer a better rate for these seasons and much more open to negotiation in these less popular times of the year.
4 ~ Less crowd
Have you ever found yourself in Sydney CBD on a Saturday during summer? You have probably noticed one, two, three Sydney wedding shoots happening at the same time. Believe me, when you’re the bride on that day, you will cross A LOT of bridal parties having their photos taken at the same popular spots. Winter offers you less crowd so that you can have Sydney almost all to yourself!
